Bead
A row of perfectly formed beads, modelled on pearls, accentuates the border of this elegant design, which first found popularity in 1770 in the neo-classical work of Hester Bateman.
Fiddle Thread & Shell
The original fiddle design, so-called because the base of the handles resembles the shape of a violin, dates from the 1780s. This variation adds a decorative thread border and a distincitive shell motif on the front and back.
Grecian
This is a simple classical design with bevelled edges and angled corners. It was designed in Sheffield in 1929 and shows strong Art Deco influence.
Jesmond
This was designed in 1925 by W. Pulling and W. Turner and features a single line border and simple scroll at the handle tip.
Kings
This design features honeysuckle flowers and shell motif. It was designed by brothers John and Henry Lyas in the 1830s, when George IV was on the throne.
Old English
Originating in the reign of George I, the appeal of this design lies in its simplicity, graceful lines and simple decorative pip.
Old English Fiddle
If you like your cutlery to feel solid and chunky in your hand, then this is the one for you. The Old English pattern is echoed in the pip on the reverse of the handle.
Rattail
This is the oldest of the English designs, dating from the early 1600s and features a prominent rib down the front of the handle and the distinctive "tail" on the backs of the spoon bowls and forks.
Reed & Ribbon
This is a continental version of the original Empire design. It features boldly shaped handles with a double thread border studded with crosses and a ribbon motif at the tip.
